Vtg Modernist George Butler N811 Wooden Handle Cutlery Set x45 50s/1960s Retro
I love this cutlery and have been collecting and storing it for years. Unfortunately I now need to make some space, so some things are having to go. This is the unglamorously named N811 pattern by George Butler of Sheffield. Dating to the 1950s or 1960s, and with bahia wood handles that look just like rosewood. This apparently unused lot consists of 3x 7 piece place settings with darker and lighter wood handles, 6 steak knives, 6 table fork, 6 dessert knives and 6 soup spoons - 45 pieces in all. I was surprised to discover that what I thought was 12 boxed N811 fisheaters are a different pattern of fisheaters by George Butler! Of a similar date and high quality, and also apparently unused, with light ivorine handles, and with a great Modernist look, so I have included them in this lot. I'm pretty sure that N811 is the cutlery shown on Ridgway's Homemaker china, it's either that or Mills Moore, or maybe a Scandinavian make - one of the ones with the assymmetric ends of handles anyway! Perfect for a starter collection of this cutlery, or addition to a set already owned. It's really a beautiful pattern and shape - knives are etched to blades in an eye shape as "GEORGE BUTLER & CO (ART) SHEFFIELD ENGLAND "NON-STAIN - table knives measuring approximately 9 long. Soup spoons in the boxed set seem to have a small gap between handle and bowls, not very noticeable and only mentioned for accuracy. Lovely for table dressing in a retro interior - do not immerse in boiling water!
