Viners SHAPE 50 piece Canteen of Cutlery designed by Gerald Benney. This is a boxed set of Viners Shape stainless steel cutlery bought in 1971 as an anniversary present for my parents. The cutlery is still modern in style to-day although it was originally designed by the silver and goldsmith, Gerald Benney CBE, in the 1960s when he was a consultant to Viners of Sheffield. The canteen contains 6 place settings comprising. 6 knives and 6 forks.
6 dessert knives and 6 forks. Over the years the cutlery was only used for special occasions so it shows little sign of wear and tear and the embossed black pattern on the handles is still in very good condition as the cutlery was always hand washed and never placed in a dish washer. The canteen is finished externally in polished Sapele mahogany and lined internally in a pink velour finish. The internal lining is also in good condition although there is some minor damage around the knife holders particularly at the basesee photos. Overall this is an excellent example of a rarely used vintage canteen of cutlery by Viners in a modern design which is rarely available to-day.
